For many people hypnotherapy is often confused with the stage hypnotists of the past such as Paul McKenna or the more daring and modern work of people like Derren Brown but the reality could not be more different. Think of hypnotherapy in the same way as meditation, prayer or even a deep, relaxing bath where your conscious mind is given the opportunity to relax, to focus and to work in harmony with your subconscious.

That is all hypnosis is - a natural state of relaxation and focus.

If you've experienced a blissful day dream, that feeling of being completely absorbed in an almost unconscious action or if you've ever driven somewhere familiar and reached your destination with almost no memory of the journey then you've been to the start line of hypnosis. It is an altered state of consciousness, a heightened state of concentration which, when guided or with considerable training, allows you to work through your own problems in complete control of the outcomes, the experiences and the process.

Hypnotherapists treat their patients, people like you, using hypnosis which allows direct suggestion to the subconscious. It is guided by ethics, long proven psychodynamic, analytical and cognitive behavioural approaches and techniques that hinge entirely on an excellent channel of communication between you and your hypnotherapist. By working together under your control you can develop insights and solutions to your situations - the whole process is entirely client led.

There is no need for fear, during hypnosis you are in full control the whole of the time. You relinquish no power, control or authority of your decision making processes, your brain will only accept the suggestions it wants and is making in its subconscious state. You will not be asleep as you know it but rather in that state between sleeping and waking and, like you do everyday, you can wake up from this state whenever you want. The control is entirely with you.

I found her approach to be both empathetic and helpful. She really helped me to understand what might be driving my relationship with food and through hypnosis helped me make positive changes.

Not being someone who relaxes easily, I was pleased to come away feeling calm and relaxed. My anxiety levels have significantly reduced since having hypnotherapy.
